Coming Soon: The 2026 RAV4 Plug-In Hybrid GR SPORT

The sixth generation of Toyota’s most popular vehicle is arriving with major improvements. The 2026 RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid introduces a refreshed design, increased power, and more advanced technology. This new generation will be available in four plug-in hybrid versions, including an all-new sporty variant.

Powered by the next generation of Toyota’s plug-in hybrid system, the RAV4 now delivers up to 324 horsepower and an estimated 80 km of all-electric driving range, representing an improvement of about 20% compared to the previous generation. This combination provides both dynamic performance and impressive fuel efficiency.

For the first time, Toyota is also introducing the RAV4 GR SPORT, developed in collaboration with Toyota GAZOO Racing. This version focuses on driving excitement with a sport-tuned suspension, a more aggressive exterior design, and unique styling elements inspired by Toyota’s performance division.

In Canada, the 2026 RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid is expected to start at a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of approximately $48,750, offering an excellent balance of performance, efficiency, and modern technology.

Under the hood, the vehicle features a 2.5-litre 4-cylinder engine combined with two electric motors and a larger, more efficient battery. This upgraded system delivers more power and improved electric driving capability. All models come equipped with all-wheel drive, while select trims offer towing capacity of up to 3,500 lb, adding to the vehicle’s versatility.

On the technology side, the RAV4 introduces a new Toyota multimedia system featuring 5G connectivity, customizable user profiles, a redesigned interface, and wireless compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The touchscreen interface allows intuitive controls using gestures similar to those on a smartphone.

The exterior styling highlights a modern and functional design that improves aerodynamics, visibility, and comfort. Depending on the trim level, features may include a power sunroof, power liftgate, LED headlights, and rain-sensing wipers.

Inside, the RAV4 offers a spacious cabin that comfortably accommodates up to five passengers, with increased cargo capacity compared to previous models. The 60/40 split-folding rear seats allow additional flexibility for transporting larger items. Standard comfort features include heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, dual-zone automatic climate control, and multiple USB-C ports.

Safety remains a top priority with the integration of Toyota Safety Sense 4.0, the latest generation of Toyota’s driver-assistance technologies. This suite helps enhance driver awareness and decision-making while reducing the risk of accidents. Additional standard features include Blind Spot Monitoring and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.

Canadian drivers will be able to choose from four versions: SE, XSE, XSE Technology Package, and GR SPORT, each offering different levels of features and technology to suit various driving preferences.

The 2026 RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid promises to deliver an impressive combination of performance, efficiency, innovation, and versatility, continuing the evolution of one of Canada’s most popular SUVs. ⚡
